Studio Operations Coordinator

Safdie Architects is looking for an experienced architect to support the firm’s Principals in an operational role for their international design practice. You will be an integral part of the highly collaborative studio, with an opportunity to combine your creative background in architecture with your strong organizational, analytical and people-management skills.

Focus Areas:

Talent / Resources

  • Work with Principals on recruitment and retention, including allocation and staffing assignments, utilization and productivity, and talent development.
  • Coordinate internships and the firm’s research fellowship program.
  • Collaborate with HR and the firm’s Principals on performance reviews and professional development initiatives and programs.

Project Operations

  • During the pursuit phase, assist Principals in developing preliminary project plans, assembling consultant teams, and preparing professional services proposals.
  • Work with project managers to develop and monitor project work plans, initiate project kick-offs, and organize periodic reviews of project documents and deliverables.
  • Monitor contract management and applications for additional services.


Qualifications:

  • Professional degree in architecture or other design-related discipline. Licensure is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience within a design practice, with experience as a team leader or project manager.
  • Experience with effective project management, including work plans, staff resourcing and utilization, project budgets and financial performance. Experience with Deltek Ajera or equivalent is welcome.
  • Excellent communications, analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with people at a variety of levels.

Social Media Coordinator

Safdie Architects is looking for a storyteller, an individual passionate about architecture and its progression from concept to reality, across the globe. Within a highly collaborative studio, working alongside the Marketing and Project Teams, you will monitor, manage, strategize and generate content for Safdie Architects’ Social Media Platforms.

Focus Areas:

Content

  • Work with design teams to generate interesting, compelling and relevant content. Align social content with key priorities.
  • Monitor Safdie Architects’ news, events and dialog – internal and external. Output alerts, announcements and highlights, accordingly.
  • Create timelines and calendars for optimal publishing.

Growth Rate

  • Research and recommend alternative opportunities for developing presence.
  • Increase followers, engagements, impressions and reach.
  • Incorporate analysis to strengthen social media strategy.

Graphic Design

  • Coordinate cross-platform identity.
  • Enhance social media creative and design.

Digital Asset Management

  • Work with Marketing Team to manage and strengthen Safdie Architects’ digital asset management platform, OpenAsset.

Architectural Designer

Safdie Architects is seeking young designers with exceptional creativity and communication skills to join their design practice. The position requires experience in the production of concept, schematic and design development documents for large scale, programmatically complex public and private projects. The architectural designer will be involved on a project from concept through completion, working directly with Moshe Safdie and the firm’s Design Principals to develop and execute the design.

In addition to an aptitude for design and problem solving, candidates must be highly motivated and can work effectively in a collaborative team environment. Safdie Architects relies heavily on the building of physical models, the use of advanced digital design software and techniques, rapid-prototyping, etc. – candidates must have demonstrated skills in these areas.

  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Suite and rendering software (EnScape, Lumion, VRay)
  • Excellent visual and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of REVIT and experience with BIM preferred
  • All applicants must have the authorization to work within the United States

Design Architect

Safdie Architects is seeking experienced architects with exceptional design, communication, and leadership skills to join their design practice. Design Architects work directly with Moshe Safdie and the firm’s Principals to develop design concepts and architectural ideas and are responsible for organizing and coordinating the efforts of all members of the design team across multiple projects concurrently. Given the diversity of the firm’s projects, with regards to project type, scale and geographic location, Design Architects need to be extremely nimble and be comfortable working within such diversity.

Candidates must be able to effectively supervise and lead teams of junior architects, have demonstrated experience developing and maintaining communication between architects and consultants and a strong knowledge of the design and detailing of complex projects. The position requires experience in the production of concept, schematic and design development documents for large scale, programmatically complex public and private projects. In addition to managing a team and being proficient with the tools of design, candidates need to be keen on being involved directly in the production of design studies, presentations, and drawings.

  • Strong basis in dealing with rational and complex geometries

Processing Archivist

Safdie Architects is seeking a full-time Processing Archivist to work in our Somerville, MA office. Currently comprised of material from 235 projects, the Moshe Safdie Archive records the progression of Safdie's career from his first unpublished university papers to Safdie Architects' current projects. The collection includes 140,000 drawings, over 200 architectural models, extensive project files, audio visual and digital material, as well as 100,000 project photos and travel slides, 215 personal sketchbooks, and 2,250 large sketches.

The staff supporting the Safdie Archive are responsible for identifying, processing, and preparing collection materials to be transferred to McGill University, as well as provides support to and serves as a resource for the firm’s architectural, administrative, communications and marketing staff.

This position assists with a collection of many thousands of architectural assets including original drawings, models, digital assets, photographs, audiovisual assets, and other records produced by the firm. The role includes such tasks as:

  • coordinate onsite and offsite storage inventories and access by creating and managing inventories, transfers, and access
  • process existing backlog of unprocessed material and transfer to offsite repository:
  • acquire and accession records in a multitude of formats
  • rehouse materials and perform basic physical preservation duties
  • digitize analog formats and performing post-processing using Adobe products
  • work with staff to identify and transfer appropriate materials to the Archive
  • coordinate with staff at McGill University to provide reference and access responsibilities
  • work with the Managing Principal to accomplish processing goals for the collection

Applicants are expected to:

  • be extremely organized and detailed-oriented, comfortable working with large amounts of data and detailed content, and experienced in item-level and group-level analysis
  • be able to work on their own or as part of a team, with minimal oversight beyond project management and check-ins with the Managing Principal
  • possess excellent writing and verbal communications skills
  • have experience processing collections at a variety of levels, using best practices and standards
  • have prior experience with architectural materials including oversize drawings and renderings
  • have familiarity with Adobe products including Photoshop and Bridge
  • have the flexibility to balance focused data-entry with creative brainstorming and problem solving
  • have a Graduate degree in Library Sciences, with relevant coursework in Records Management, Collections Management, or Preservation

Candidates with experience developing Omeka databases, knowledge of digital SLR photography, and research experience in art or architectural history, are preferred.
