As a Principal and Director of Safdie Architects’ Singapore office, Charu Kokate manages the firm’s efforts in Singapore. With more than a decade of experience at Safdie Architects, Charu successfully translates the firm’s design philosophy into practice during the construction phase. She is responsible for guaranteeing the balance of design goals, quality construction, and budget and schedule delivery for each project. Her ability to translate the project’s design intent into construction allows for more seamless project implementation. In Singapore, Charu has overseen the construction of Marina Bay Sands, Sky Habitat, and Jewel project at Changi Airport. She works closely with the client, project team, as well as local and international consultants and leads contractor relations for each project. She is currently supervising design and construction for a new 69-story residential tower in Colombo, Sri Lanka, as well as the mixed-use Jewel Changi Airport project in Singapore.
Charu Kokate joined Safdie Architects in 2007 and was named Principal in 2013. Prior to joining Safdie Architects, she was a Project Architect at Shepley Bulfinch in Boston, where she worked on healthcare and higher education projects across the US. Charu earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pune in India and Masters in Architecture from Pennsylvania State University.
