Chris Mulvey brings a deep understanding of both design and operational leadership to bridge the creative and strategic ambitions of Safdie Architects. As Senior Partner, he serves as a trusted advisor known for his analytical thinking and concise focus. Leading global business operations and firm-wide initiatives, Chris applies his comprehensive knowledge of architectural practice—including design, communications, business development, and financial strategy—to amplify the firm’s collective impact

Throughout his career, Chris has been integral to the design of several key projects, including the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas, and the United States Institute of Peace on the Washington Mall. In 2011, he relocated to Shanghai to establish a branch office and serve as Project Director for the firm’s major projects in China, including the groundbreaking 1,127,000-square-meter integrated complex Raffles City Chongqing. His time in Asia deepened his international acumen, and upon returning to Somerville in 2016, he assumed responsibility for leading operations and strategic development for the firm globally.

Deeply committed to sustaining Safdie Architects as an incubator for creative and technical growth, Chris actively fosters the development of its next generation of leaders. During his tenure, Chris has overseen the launch of key initiatives, including the Diversity Advancement Scholar program with the Architects Fund, the Safdie Master Class for emerging talent, and equitable internship and mentorship programs.
