As Senior Partner, Sean Scensor draws on 25 years of experience with the firm, combining design expertise, advanced building technologies, and practice insight to drive many of its most significant projects. Guided by the belief that architects have an ethical responsibility to the public, Sean is committed to realizing designs with a strong sense of community, humane livability, and connection to nature.
With work spanning diverse geographies, Sean has been key to Safdie Architects’ expansion across the Americas, leading competitions and projects ranging from civic masterplans to corporate headquarters, concert halls, hospitals, housing, and educational facilities. Among his notable contributions are the Albert Einstein Education and Research Center in São Paulo, Brazil—one of Latin America’s most advanced medical institutions—and the Centro Hospitalario Serena del Mar in Cartagena, Colombia, the first high-complexity teaching hospital in the Caribbean.
In China, Sean has directed transformative projects such as Habitat Qinhuangdao, a residential development rooted in the principles of urban living central to the firm’s ethos, and the design of the iconic towers at Raffles City Chongqing, advancing the region’s urban evolution. Earlier in his career, he helped shape cultural landmarks such as the Virasat-e-Khalsa Museum in Punjab, India, dedicated to Sikh cultural history; the Salt Lake City Main Public Library, which reimagined the library typology; and the Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia, celebrated for its contextual sensitivity.
A versatile leader, Sean bridges between the art, science, and business of architecture, and has a central role in strategic planning, business development, and public engagement. Showcasing the firm’s work on global platforms, his insights have appeared in publications including The New York Times and ArchDaily, alongside speaking appearances at events like the Disrupt Symposium and Revestir Expo in Brazil.
