Safdie Architects has unveiled the design for the renovation of Pacific Library, Brooklyn’s first Carnegie library, which opened in 1904. The project will restore the historic character of the branch while introducing new community spaces, increasing daylight, improving accessibility, and creating gardens around the building. 

The renovation includes a new two-story solarium set within the garden, expanded spaces for children and teens, restored lightwells, and the return of the building’s original conical roof form and skylight. The project will add approximately 1,500 square feet and is designed for LEED Gold certification.  

Safdie Architects is working in collaboration with AYON Studio, Architect of Record and Preservation Architect. The renovation builds on a community engagement process led by Brooklyn Public Library and is expected to be completed in 2028.
